It is the responsibility of the dog owner’s to make sure that their dogs are clean, healthy, and happy. This can be achieved by regularly grooming your dog so that the lustre on its coat is restored. This can also help prevent mites and removes dirt or irritants which can be harmful to your dog’s skin. Of course, if you do not have time, you may contact those in the dog grooming business to do the job.

Factors Determining Frequency

There are different suggestions about when and how often a dog should be groomed. The reason for this is that there are some individual factors to consider. These factors include the dog breed, the physical activity it undertakes each day and the environment in which the dog lives in.

Some people believe that a dog should shower weekly, while others think that every two weeks is enough. The frequency differs based on your dog’s activity level. Some dogs loveeee to get down and dirty by rolling around in grass or mud while others simply prefer to rest in the comforts of their home.

Certain dog breeds have coats that are oilier than usual. Such dogs are more prone to odours that are very unpleasant. This might also causes them to itch more than usual and groomers or vets usually suggest a more frequent shower schedule.

Another significant factor to consider is the length of the dog’s hair. The longer the hair, the more often the baths should be. However, one thing to remember is that you should not bathe your dog too often as it may cause a negative effect on your dog’s skin. By showering your dog too often, it strips the natural oil away which causes your dog’s skin to become drier. This can cause itching and irritation to your dog. If your dog has a sensitive skin, you should not bathe it too often as this can irritate the skin more.

Dog shampoo, in many cases, can leave residue if not rinsed properly. This causes irritation to the skin. If your dog has allergies or dry skin, this will only worsen the situation. Bathing your dog on a less frequent basis in this case will allow for less dry coat and irritation. If you must bathe your dog, you may consider a moisturizing shampoo, possibly an oatmeal shampoo that will not dry the dog’s skin.
